Preview: Ashish N Soni’s LFW Winter Festive 2016 Collection
The ace designer who has completed 25 years in the industry, tells us what to expect from his upcoming collection at LFW Winter Festive 2016:
What was the starting point or inspiration for this collection?
“I wanted to create something new, but at the same time retain my signature style and remain true to my aesthetic. For this collection, I have mixed black and white, and juxtaposed them to create interesting silhouettes and to express volume. There is also a huge 80’s influence in this collection.”
What are techniques and textiles that were used?
“The theme of this collection is volume, hence the name ‘Volomatic’, which is a play on voluminous silhouettes and monochromes (the monochrome palette has been one of my strengths). The challenge has been to reinvent and to do something not commonly done. Oversized silhouettes, big shoulders, boyfriend jackets and grandfather trousers have all been used but with an edgy, contemporary twist. Some of the fabrics used are silk jacquards, self-embossed floral lurex and lurex herringbone.”
What piece from the collection would you recommend and why?
“I would recommend the look we have used as the campaign image because it reflects my signature elements – graphics, layering and androgyny. It also reflects the retro vibe of the collection.”
