This fashion wunderkind’s highly feminine wardrobe presents a fusion of Western simplicity and understated luxe

Nadine Dhody Jiwrajka’s personal style is mood-driven, by turns feminine and sporty chic. Nevertheless, the young fashion designer finds herself gravitating towards classic pieces. The monotone-loving sartorialist exults in her basics with a contemporary accent and is often found wearing myriad manifestations of whites and blacks, the two colours that never go out of style.

For someone who was raised by an extremely fashion-savvy mom — Rita Dhody, a designer and costume stylist — the fashion bug naturally caught on early. “When I was young, I would go to my mum’s factory quite often, straight from school, and hang around there. Sequins, beads and artisans working on beautiful embroideries surrounded me. I remember being so fascinated by it all.”

After launching her eponymous label in April 2015, her mother’s uncompromising bow to perfection is something Nadine has emulated in her own work and style, right from the start. “At the threshold of building my brand, I am constantly thinking of new concepts and designs; I get inspired by little things and translate those into my work. Fashion is so fast-paced; it’s easy to get left behind!”

A firm believer in the power of all-white, she takes it up a notch with a structured and fitted white blouse atop distressed white denims paired with nude peep-toed Louboutins. Minimal make-up, a good moisturiser and pink lipstick add the finishing touches. Her day look is effortlessly transformed when she slips into a black lace dress, vertiginous heels, and a statement clutch for a night out. A regular switch between smoky eyes and deep red lips adds power to her ensemble.

The sassy dresser is addicted to the aromas of Love Story by Chloe and J’adore by Dior and her unerring wardrobe of designer wear is graced by Self-Portrait, Isabel Marant, Cushnie Et Ochs, Moschino, Alexis and her own label for occasion-centric dressing. “I love designing my own outfits — from gowns to miniskirts to lehngas!”

While Nadine, on many occasions, channels the It-girl-prepping-for-a-ball vibe, when pressed for time, she can completely rely on her classic blue jeans, white shirt, nude peep-toes and a statement watch. With a self-assured sense of style and a young and successful label that delivers all-occasion wear and looks forward to branching out into stores and exhibitions across the country, this fashionista is on a roll and that’s how she likes it.
