Lakmé Fashion Week Day 2: Home Grown

Debashri Samant opened Day 2 of Lakmé Fashion Week with her collection inspired by the fishing villages of Vietnam showcasing hand-woven fish and hook motifs. Working around fluid flowing silhouettes, Divya Sheth reinvented Ajrakh using rustic Indian hues. Sayantan Sarkar’s fashionable ode to Japanese dolls were interspersed with Indian block prints.
Anavila Sindhu Misra’s collection titled ‘Mohenjodaro’ stood out for the use of rich shades like mehendi green, gold metallic, navy blue and rust red. Purvi Doshi married Aztec prints with mirror work, while Sashikant Naidu worked with layered and textured outfits all made in khadi coupled with hand-made accessories and tribal jewellery.
The sheer-over-solid theme ruled Pratima Pandey’s collection. Inspired by the 1920’s she played around with silk Chanderi and cotton Madras checks. The envy shades were quite a stunner. Shruti Sancheti stayed true to the festive season showcasing creations in silk that were heavy on embroidery and opulence.
Inspired by vintage royal Indian families, Soumitra Mondal’s collection displayed a beige colour story with hints of pink and gold. Crinkled skirts were a favourite with Vaishali S who had them emerging from under saris loaded with colour, weaves and textures.
Krishna Mehta’s love affair with Indian textiles was quite evident in her collection that showcased soft and easy colours, subtle transitions from indigo to orange and white to hot pink. Angarkha style gowns, bias cut kurtas and lacy flared pants created a functional yet flashy impression.
Sanjay Garg’s collection for his label Raw Mango was a visual treat with creations in jewelled tones of shocking pink, deep blue, peach, gold, white and parrot green. Gold motifs of flowers, birds and intricate traditional designs spoke volumes of his sheer expertise and love for the craft.
