Katrina Kaif’s Beauty Diary

Text by Aparrna Gupta

This Valentine’s Day, take a cue from eternally elegant Katrina Kaif, and get comfortable in your own skin. In the news for her alleged break-up, and her fiery crimson tresses in this weekend release, Fitoor, Katrina shares her beauty diary…

Being Beautiful… “The one thing that I took home from my debut appearance at the Cannes Film Festival last year was to enjoy the moment. The festival is one of the largest stages to showcase fashion, beauty and glamour. However, behind the scenes, when the L’Oréal Paris team was getting us ready, there was no overdue importance given to hair and make-up. One wasn’t being chased around to look perfect rather one was encouraged to be comfortable. Interestingly, the experts, who were the best in the world, paid more attention to calming our nerves. Feel and be yourself, and not stress about looking picture-perfect. That to me is beautiful.”

Endorsing L’Oréal Paris… “To me, ‘Because you are worth it’ has many meanings. It means trying to encourage women to celebrate the respect we should give ourselves. We shouldn’t measure our worth by the love others give us. It’s about celebrating and empowering yourself.”

Pink Perfect… “Some women look beautiful when they put on a hot pink lipstick, while I prefer a delicate shade of pink. When I was asked to pick my pink for the La Vie En Rose collection, I was really excited. Personally, I find pink more wearable than red. But like the reds, you need to find that shade of pink which will complement your personality and skin tone.”

Make-up SOS… “If I am running late for a meeting or I am totally pressed for time, a quick sweep of kajal and a slick of lipstick do the trick.”

Always-with-me essentials… “Kajal pencil, a compact powder and a lip gloss. Now, that I have my signature lipstick (Extraordinaire Mat Delicate Pink), it is in my bag always.”

Morning Fix… “I use the L’Oréal Paris Skin Perfect cream. It keeps my skin hydrated and the SPF in it protects my skin from the harmful UV rays.”

A product which evokes nostalgia… “The Yardley fragrance.”

Bizarre beauty… “I was almost tempted to try Bee Venom gel or serum — a sample someone showed me.”

Favourite Reel Look… “While I love all the looks from all my films — as each and every look was different — I love my red hair look in Fitoor. It is adventurous and suits my personality.”

Being Star-Struck… “We shot the ad film for La Vie En Rose in Cannes, and it was a nerve-racking experience for me to be in the same frame as Julianne Moore and Naomi Watts. I just couldn’t stop gazing at my screen idols. They were so warm, welcoming and down-to-earth. It was a learning experience to observe how, despite having achieved so much, they remain so passionate about their work.”
