In Conversation With The Gen Next Designers At LFW Winter/Festive 2017

The new kids on the block talk about the collections they showcased on Day 1 of the fashion extravaganza

Saaksha&Kinni by Saaksha Parekh and Kinnari Kamat

On their design philosophy
“We have always been fascinated with the perceived ideas of masculinity and femininity and how we carry each in varying ratios within us. Through our designs, we render these ideas into styles that tell our audience’s personal story. The embroidery takes on a darker mood, the prints pack a punch without sacrificing their restraint, the colours run deep with a tinge of whimsy and old-school badla makes a new-age appearance. Our muse doesn’t shy away from exploring her feminine-meets-fierce side, all the while keeping it luxe boho. Our designs are layered and enigmatic, yet comfortable, playful and easy. Quite like us and the women we know.”

On their showcase at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017
“The origin of our story comes from the idea of equipping a woman with everything she requires on her journey to self-discovery. The collection works hard to bring out the dualities that exist within each of us. Though the silhouettes may seem feminine and flowy in the dresses and skirts, the embroidery and prints are very masculine in their appeal. A detailed look into the battle-ready embroideries reveals intricate zardozi, dulled metal sheets, antique stones and acid wash sequin embroidery. The strong shoulders and no-nonsense stripes lend a subversive spin to power dressing that is also suggestive of a timeless feminine charm. In terms of palette, passionate reds and enigmatic blacks are complemented by the calmness of blues and beiges.”
