Take Two: Why #GucciGram Tian is an Oriental Eye Opener
At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, even the capsule collections by Alessandro Michele are created with the intention of bringing about a cultural impact. Gucci’s Spring-Summer 2016 collection of Tian prints is a nod to the Far East, and has been inspired by Chinese landscapes and 18th century tapestries. Calling it the ‘artistic takeover’, the Tian floral motif features 3-D blooms, dragonflies, butterflies and hummingbirds with a painted-on appearance.
Taking these visually appealing designs into the digital space, Gucci launches the second phase of their Instagram project – #GucciGram Tian. Throwback to the first edition, which had illustrators and artists play around with Gucci’s popular blooms and Caleido prints. The second edition of this collaboration has Asian artists bring a fresh perspective to the Tian prints. Their work is a showcase of imaginative engagement, and reflects the concept of a surreal world that is so dear to Gucci. As these artists showcase their work on Instagram, we pick the coolest #GucciGrams you should know about.
