Decoding Fendi’s AW16 Menswear Collection

Text by Saumya Sinha

From snug belted robes to roomy outerwears, Fendi’s Autumn/Winter ’16 line is all about going easy

After throwing reversible jackets and corduroy pants into the spotlight last Autumn/Winter, inspired by the uniforms of British academicians, Silvia Venturini Fendi has given a witty spin to loungewear this year with exaggerated volumes and eye-catching motifs. The collection sets a playful tone from the off with soft, comfortable silhouettes. Adding to the visual treat are shirts turned into coats; checked patterns of all sizes seen on everything from blousons and trousers to handbags. ‘Homeliness is synonymous with roominess’ is the idea behind menswear and one cannot argue with how well it is translated on each of the looks. Further elucidating the irresistible relaxed vibe of the season is knitwear which is seen in the form of long and loose jumpers and droopy scarves wrapped around the neck.

Though the popping hues and details make a case for some funky day and evening wear, the real praise lies in the classic and quirky accessories which graced the ramp. Silk bandanas, sheepskin bucket hats and sneakers with trekking details all hint towards an exotic getaway. The classic Selleria Peekaboo bags decorated with #FendiFaces made a delightful appearance on the runway and big rucksacks lend functionality to the ensembles. The versatile colour palette with organic hues of brown, green and grey along with flashes of red, yellow and blue makes the collection perfect for both boardroom and endless soirées.
