Exclusive #FirstLook: Sanjay Garg’s collection for Ogaan

Text by Wyanet Vaz

“The trend is to kill the trend,” says Sanjay Garg as he unveils his summer capsule collection for Ogaan. Don’t miss the Verve exclusive images and interaction here…

Known for his indigenous flavour and love of handloom, Sanjay Garg is all about the left of centre. Sticking to homegrown techniques and craftsmanship, his new collection for Ogaan plays around modern silhouettes and targets the global traveller. Throwback to his collection for Lakme Fashion Week last year, and you will recollect the jewel tones, gold motifs and parrot prints (Check it here). This capsule collection is an extension of the same catalogue but leans towards easy-to-wear and free-flowing garments.

In his own words, Sanjay Garg takes us through his collection and shares with us his thought processes…

1. Your new collection is… “Easy to wear, flowy and summery. “

2. Inspiration behind this collection… “The Kadwa brocade technique is one Indian skill set that is high-end and luxurious. We have revived this craft, which used to be practiced 50 years ago. We have also managed to create a sustainable business for this community through this revival.”

3. Perfect for… “The global traveller. A woman who doesn’t follow any trends, but believes in a mix of the traditional and modern.”

4. Strongest trend of the season… “The trend is to kill the trend. I personally do not believe in the idea of trends.”

5. India to you is… “Colour, craftsmanship and culture.”
