One of the most artistic happenings in the world of haute couture is the annual Chanel Métiers d’Art show. Renowned for their extravagant collections in equally jaw-dropping locations, Karl Lagerfeld raises the bar with each proceeding. Taking off from Bombay, Edinburgh and Dallas, this year, Karl Lagerfeld’s inspiration turned to Salzburg, Austria.

With the reputation of being a mysterious affair, the brand showcased a preview of the collection in the form of Reincarnation – a short film featuring Pharrell Williams and Cara Delevingne. But Pandora’s box was opened the next day at Schloss Leopoldskron, the 18th century Austrian castle (which also happened to be the location for The Sound of Music). The meticulously crafted collection depicting dirdls, lederhosen, frills and flared jackets, only proved that for Lagerfeld the devil is in the detail.

Cashing in on the nature of the Tyrolean hills, the collection gave Austrian fashion a contemporary twist with lace, ruffles and flowers made from feathers. While butterflies fluttered across dresses, and ferns dotted jackets, you could almost smell the pine trees of Austria.
