Bobbi Brown re-invents her timeless classic, the Skin Foundation Stick with a brand new formula for the contemporary woman. The make-up maverick shares her secrets to achieving flawless glowing skin…

What originally inspired you to create the Foundation Stick?
The idea for Foundation Stick came to me when I was at a swimwear shoot with photographer Walter Chin in 1992; after applying foundation on her face, I realised it did not match the rest of her body. I actually had to apply foundation to the rest of her body to even out her skin tone. So I set out to create a foundation of my own — one that looked like skin and was user- friendly.

How is the new formula ideal for today’s women?
Whether it is a photo shoot, a red carpet event or even an evening out, using the right kind of tools this Foundation Stick can give you full coverage, sheer coverage or spot coverage. It smoothens out imperfections while adapting to your skin type, is water and sweat resistant and totally invisible on camera!

Talking about being camera-ready, how does one avoid looking too washed out or cakey in pictures?
Moisturiser is the best way to prep skin for a flawless make-up application. Avoid sun block or sunscreen, as they can make skin look ashy in photos. Flash photography emphasises pink tones, so be sure to even out skin with the correct foundation. Set the foundation with sheer loose powder to make it longer-lasting and to ensure that you don’t look shiny in pictures. Neutral and pale lip colours look washed out in photographs, so choose brighter shades of pink, rose and plum to brighten up your face.

Everyone lusts after a natural glow. What is your secret to achieving it?
In the weeks leading up to an event, aim to eat as clean as possible. Stick to lean proteins and plenty of vegetables and fruit. Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated and refreshed, and take a relaxing bath the night before. Layer two shades of blush for a pretty, flushed look that’s long-lasting too. First, apply a neutral shade on the apples of your cheeks, blending up into the hairline and down the cheek to soften. Finish with a pop of brighter blush just on the apples of the cheeks. For a lit-from-within glow, sweep a shimmer brick high on the cheekbones.

What are the key essentials one should carry in their bag?
Carry a Skin Foundation Stick, creamy concealer, pressed powder, lipstick or gloss, mints and a mini sewing kit for emergency clothing fixes like a fallen hem or popped button.
