Anavila Misra Opens Her First Flagship Store

Anavila has just launched her own flagship store, located in the leafy bylanes of Khar, in Mumbai. The store will retail the designer’s saris, ready-to-wear garments, jewellery, home decor items and bags. The store is a perfect blend of the trademark Anavila aesthetic — equal parts rustic and contemporary. The purity of her handlooms is brought to life in a modern space. Soft linen curtains are found alongside modern industrial-style lights.

The shiny gold, delicate silver and buttery soft hand-spun saris are available along with her earthy kurtas and dresses. The home decor pieces include cushions, curtains and wall art, all bearing the touch of minimalism and simplicity that she is known for.

What we’re most excited about happens to be one of her initiatives to make the sari more popular among young girls. She has created a range of handmade dolls wearing saris, as well actual saris for young girls as part of her children’s wear section. Anavila Misra talks about introducing home decor and explains why the store is special:

“The name Anavila means ‘pure’. All the textiles and techniques which we work with are geared towards preserving the purity of the craft. We don’t mix artificial yarns into what we use. We’ve been doing a bit of home decor for the export market. That is also an extension of the artisans we work with. We use the same linen (as the clothes), and the same group of girls from Jharkhand work on it. They do their khatwa work on the table linen, pillows, curtains and wall art…. We wanted to put everything our brand stands for together and create that experience for the customer.”
