Explore the Kalkimanthankatha
No, Kumbh Mela isn’t just a place to lose your sibling. For the two actors in experimental filmmaker Ashish Avikunthak’s Kalkimanthankatha (The Churning of Kalki), it’s the place they search for the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki. A war occurs during the actors’ quest, and they prepare themselves with a little help from Chinese revolutionary Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book. Inspired by playwright Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, the Bengali feature takes the viewer on a retrospective journey.
Avikunthak, who has been on a filmmaking spree since the mid-nineties, has screened his films at several museums, galleries and film festivals.
Kalkimanthankatha is being screened at Chatterjee & Lal, Mumbai (1/18, Floor 1, Kamal Mansion, Arthur Bunder Road, Colaba) until July 31, 2015.
