Some say monochrome photography can make anything look beautiful. Staying true to this, photographer Shahid Datawala’s latest show, I Was Once Alive has on display pictures of vintage, broken cars. These monochrome images, photographed within their junkyard dwellings and deserted spaces, each bring out the brilliance of Datawala’s lens.
The exhibition, that was also part of the Focus Photo Festival, tries to portray journeys and memories, through the pictures of the rusted and broken cars. Says the press note for the show, ‘through these complex portraits Shahid Datawala allows himself to think and speculate across unresolved debates – such as machine, nature, culture and habit – these objects encompass’. So car lovers, don’t miss the chance to view vintage wheels in all their monochrome glory.
I Was Once Alive is on display at Gallery 7, Mumbai (G3, Oricon House, 12/14 Rampart Row, K Dubash Marg, Kala Ghoda) until April 15, 2015.
