Calling All Music Buffs: All-Star Gigs To Look Out For

Text by Simone Louis

Bring out your calendars, because we’re giving you the low-down on the upcoming gigs that you just can’t miss

Mad Decent Block Party India

It’s about time. A regular fixture in America and the rest of the world, the Mad Decent Block Party has finally set its sights on India, with the help of Sunburn. After the likes of Deadmau5, Skrillex, Hardwell and Afrojack having visited the country, next up is Major Lazer, whose ‘Lean On’ music video shot in Mumbai propelled them to the top of our favourites list and set the ground for other projects like Coldplay’s recent ‘Hymn For The Weekend‘ music video.

Kicking off in Mumbai on February 19 followed by Delhi and then Bengaluru on the next two days, #MDBPIndia is set to be a blast with not only attractions like crowd zorbing, water guns, dancers and world-class animated visuals, but also a strong set of supporting acts like Nucleya, Gorgon City, Big Gigantic and more.

Check out the trailer below and head on to our twitter handle @vervemagazine to win tickets to the show!

Stage42

It may be known as primarily a comedy festival but, after a highly successful first edition, Stage42 is back with an eclectic line-up of not only 70 of the finest stand-up artists, but also a music spread that includes the likes of worldwide sensation Boyce Avenue (February 12 in Mumbai and February 13 in Bengaluru), Indian musicians Nicholson, Dualist Inquiry, Anish Sood, Nucleya (he’s everywhere), Baba Sehgal, rapper Naezy and sufi rock band Parvaaz, among others.

Mahindra Blues Festival

Never one to disappoint, this is a music weekend for the soul. Back for its sixth consecutive edition, the Mahindra Blues Festival will be headlined this time by three-time Grammy award winning musician Keb Mo (nominated at this year’s Grammy awards, too) and free-spirited English singer-songwriter Joss Stone. Head to the iconic Mehboob Studios in Bandra, Mumbai, on February 13 and 14 for a dose of impassioned performances also from blues sensation Malina Moye, The Heritage Blues Orchestra, Shillong-based band Soulmate and blues-rock act King King.

Sensation India

What began 15 years ago in Amsterdam soon turned into worldwide phenomenon in stadiums and arenas around the globe and, now, Sensation – the biggest dance event in the world – is heading to India on March 5 this year. With an all-white mandatory dress code, the event will bring acrobats, performers and DJs onto a massive carousel stage with enthralling theatrics and special effects. The all-star line-up for this fiesta hasn’t yet been announced, but we’re pleased to say that Verve has the scoop to share with you soon! Watch this space for details.
