Gauri Gill Documents The Mark On The Wall
Give an artist a blank canvas, and they can create magic. Taking off in this vein, world-renowned photographer Gauri Gill documents drawings made on walls by some local artists, teachers and kids of Rajasthan. From simple doodles to refined lines, Gill captures the many expressions of the rural community of the desert state, revealing ideas and identities along the way. Two other bodies of work, Fields of Sight — a new set of photo-paintings created in collaboration with Warli artist Rajesh Vangad — and Places, Traces, a series from Gill’s ongoing photographic project, are also part of the exhibition.
The Mark on the Wall is on display at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke, Mumbai until June 30, 2016.
