The inaugural edition of Goa Photo, a street photography festival, has shutterbugs from around the world celebrating the theme “The Other”

You’ve seen photographs in galleries, museums and even studios. But an open-air photo festival debuting in Goa this year, Goa Photo, offers a unique way of viewing photographs. Its display venues are spread across Goa’s capital city, at key locations and neighbourhoods. The aim is to facilitate a walking discovery of Panaji’s unique architectural heritage.

In partnership with the Corporation of the City of Panaji, the festival will host 18 exhibitions of works by contemporary Indian and international photographers, whose photos explore the idea of “the other”. This refers to the sense of “otherness” that both a photographer and the subject feel when a portrait is clicked.

Curated by Spanish art director Frank Kalero, the fest will have participants like Nina Roder, Gauri Gill, Alexia Webster, Sebastian Cortés and Soumya Sankar Bose, among others, displaying their works. That’s not it — the event also includes talks by photographers, guided walks and round-table discussions, and workshops in association with the prestigious Magnum Photos.

Goa Photo will take place from February 25 – March 7, 2015 in Panaji, Goa.
