Candid Camera: “Homeless”

Photograph by Dhruva Samal. Text by Sitanshi Talati-Parikh

Can Mumbai survive and transcend it’s disparate economic conditions? Is there hope? Verve’s Candid Camera series opens a dialogue for discussion

Location “Mumbai is often considered as the city of contrasts. On one hand it is the financial capital of the nation housing a large number of financial institutions while on the other hand it is home to the largest slum in Asia. This photograph taken in an affluent neighbourhood of the city captures this economic disparity through the unfortunate situation of a homeless person.”

Moving Image “The thought-provoking text on the board on the left of the image lends itself well to the conversation.”

Photographer Mumbai-based architect, Dhruva Samal, is naturally drawn to design and the arts. “Photography is a serious interest and all my travels and experiences continue to provide a source of inspiration for all my works.”
