  • Sun Mere Bandhu Re
  • A Bad Character

MATRIMONIAL MOCKTALES
HETAL ADESARA
OM BOOKS INTERNATIONAL
Matrimonial Mocktales revolves around a young quixotic protagonist, Rhea, who is raised in a conservative Sikh family in Jalandhar, where it is inconceivable for a girl to remain a spinster at 25, let alone at the age of 33 – but that’s exactly what she is. After she enters the dynamic playing field of love on an erroneous footing, it takes the better part of her youth to find the right man after a whole lot of blundering. Rhea bears with a heavy-handed mother, an ill-fated but supportive father while a legion of boys go in and out of her life – even as she tries to make sense of her frenzied world.

SUN MERE BANDHU RE: THE MUSICAL JOURNEY OF SD BURMAN
SATHYA SARAN
HARPER COLLINS
In this narrative of S.D. Burman’s life, Sathya Saran tells his story through a phantasmagoria of montages from the worlds he inhabited. It is a book that reveals a lot of what ‘Sachin Karta’ was – one who unfalteringly believed in the power of his music and who had an uncanny knack of picking just the right voice for a song, even if it was an unknown one.

Disjointed ruminations of his days in the rustic surroundings of Comilla, interviews, press trimmings and other documents are pieced together to tell the tale of the man who created some of Hindi cinema’s most everlasting records.

A BAD CHARACTER
DEEPTI KAPOOR
PENGUIN BOOKS
Following Idha, a young woman attempting to cope with skirmishes between a traditional family and what really interests her, this novel offers a spirited understanding of what it means to be a middle-class woman in 21st century Delhi.

Idha discovers an escape from arranged marriage and a sheltered world, through a happenstance with an enigmatic yet jeopardous young man. But, as the tumultous affair plays out, she is carried past the point of no return, where the reader discovers that love, angst and brutality can dangerously leave the protagonist gasping for air.
