Explore Two Shadows And One Image With A Dual Show Of Paintings
One look at their paintings, and the first thing that hits you is their quirkiness and vibrancy. Working with attractive colour palettes and a sense of whimsy, artists Jayanta Roy and Sumantra Mukherjee create artworks that are a comment on social norms and popular culture. While Roy’s creations are similar to visual puzzles, Mukherjee’s canvases are a reflection of the everyday, of universal ideas.
Artist profiles:
Jayanta Roy has trained in the art of sculpture, but has turned to painting in recent years. His artworks have been included in the book 100 Painters of Tomorrow, published in 2014. The artist lives and works in Kolkata.
Sumantra Mukherjee is a draughtsman from Kolkata, whose practice includes wall and street paintings, sculpture, and design. His creations, made during his residency at Het Wilde Weten in Rotterdam, have been featured in the book Tourist Visa.
Two Shadows, One Image is on display at Art District XIII, New Delhi (F-213C, Lado Sarai, Old M.B Road) until August 13, 2016
