Indian Heart at Art International

Text by Huzan Tata

If you’re in the land of Hagia Sophia, head to the two day global fair for a creative feast

For Indian art enthusiasts, this one’s a true Turkish delight. Art International, the country’s global contemporary and modern art fair, brings to Istanbul 87 galleries from 27 countries, presenting works by over 400 creators. Catch the best artists and artworks from USA, Europe, South America, the Middle East and South Asia.

Highlights

Aicon Gallery The London and New York based venue that focuses on Indian artists and those from across the border, has on display recent works – paintings, installations and sculptures – by G R Iranna, Paresh Maity, Anil Revri, Salman Toor and Abdullah Syed among others.

Rukshaan Art Estalished by Rukshaan Krishna in 2008, the creative endeavour is showing a sculptural installation by Uttar Pradesh’s Girjesh Kumar Singh. Titled Laaga chunari mein daag, the artwork takes inspiration from the 16th century philosopher, Kabir. Singh likens the ‘stains’ in his creation to prejudices that individuals carry.

Sakshi Gallery The quaint South Mumbai art space is showcasing an intricate wall mural made from bottle caps and copper wire, by celebrated Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui.

Art International 2015 is on display at Haliç Congress Center, Istanbul from September 4-6, 2015. Visit www.artinternational-istanbul.com for the complete schedule.
